RARE Blue Ridge Turquoise (Nevada) 4.5-5mm Rounded Nugget Beads, 16 Inch Strand
The Blue Ridge turquoise mine, also known as the Orvil Jack mine, is located in Lander County, Nevada. It was claimed by Orvil and Bessie Jack in 1956. The mine is notable for its distinctive turquoise, especially the early finds which featured spider web matrix or came in nugget form. In the 1980s, Orvil Jack discovered what is referred to as Orvil Jack turquoise, which is typically characterized by a green hue. In contrast, Blue Ridge turquoise is generally known for its translucent blue nuggets with dark matrix patterns. Much of the turquoise from this mine is often stabilized or enhanced to improve its durability and appearance.
