These clay beads are made with mixtures of earthenware clays, silica,and other minerals—all non-toxic materials. They are colored with various proportions of oxides and are fired at 1832 degrees Fahrenheit (1000 Centigrade). In keeping with the Pre-Colombian methods of fabrication, the beads are cut by hand, so their lengths are not even, thus creating a strand that has a characteristic movement and therefore the number of beads per inch will vary greatly. They are very lightweight and are soft to the touch, with a velvety sequin like look to them.
